Monday Maunderings

Happy Monday Lovelies.

I am coming to you late in the day because honestly y'all, I just needed a break. Last week was a lot, there are a lot of changes coming around here and in my personal life which I will chit chat about on a later date and I was just tired but, we are here and ready to go.

1. Let's talk first about some smaller wins that you may have not heard about yet for the Black community. Things are really starting to change y'all. This is huge.

  • Minnesota has banned the use of choke holds

  • Dallas adopted a "duty to intervene" rule that requires officers to stop other cops who are engaging in inappropriate use of force

  • Rallies and memorials have been held in cities across Europe, as well as in Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Australia, and New Zealand

  • Memorials have been built for Floyd around the world, too. In Mexico City, portraits of him were hung outside the US embassy with roses, candles, and signs

  • Really difficult conversations are happening all around the world, within brands, through advertising.

2. As many of you probably know, Florida is a hot mess. Back in March, our lovely governor didn't take Covid seriously-he never has for that matter, we were one of the last states to put mandatory restrictions into place and that only came about literally because of a poll one of the local new stations created. Florida has pretty much remained open with very lax restrictions and guidelines. With that being said, our parks and playgrounds opened up this weekend. I know that Noah is DYING to go but eek! I just don't know. I am still not super comfortable with the idea of it. Am I a bad mom for denying him? I am sure I will cave soon but right out of the gate I am a nervous nellie.

3. On the Covid topic, HALLELUJAH for nail techs that make house calls! I already hated going to salons pre-Covid but I could never find a traveling nail tech. I finally found the sweetest girl and she hooked me up with the nails of my Pinterest dreams. Biggest plus is that she's a fellow Black woman so major score!

Well that is all for this Monday. Stay tuned this week for another Black owned beauty spotlight and a chat on Colorism. I hope you all have the best week!
